My past isn't pretty. After a disastrous incident nearly destroyed me, I rose from the ashes to reclaim my life. I may not be happy, but I'm comfortable. And I'll never let anyone get close enough to hurt me again. But then six feet of pure temptation walks through the doors of my bar...repeatedly...for a year. I've done a good job of ignoring the sexy college soccer player, until the night his teammates leave him stranded and intoxicated, forcing me to offer him shelter. Now I can't shake the persistent man.

SOCCER I play to win. But he's more than a game.

As a forward, it's my job to score points. Too bad I haven't been able to do that with the local green-eyed bartender. I haven't been subtle about my attraction, and Beard's interest shines through his gruff exterior...whether he chooses to admit it or not. When my well-meaning teammates intervene, using questionable tactics, and leave me at Beard's mercy, it's time to make my move.

When past hurts threaten to destroy their chance at happiness, is it time for Soccer to push forward to reach his ultimate goal...or has he made a play destined for mutual heartbreak?

This is a standalone novella.

I saw this book come up and decided I would give it a try. I had never heard of the author, but the blurb had me interested immediately. Who doesn't love sports and hot guys?

I never imagined that I would end up loving this book as much as I did. This is a slow burn romance, which I love and also a hurt /comfort. It didn't feel rushed and the dual POV made it easier to understand what each MC was thinking.

Soccer and Beard were a perfect match. It was Soccer's unconditional love for Beard that made him come out of his shell. He was understanding, caring, and most of all...very persistent which is what Beard needed.

I enjoyed watching them fall in love and the sex was hot. Most was off page near the end, but the beginning was very hot and passionate. It was placed perfectly throughout the story and helped it move along.

Aside from a few grammatical errors, this book is worth it. If you are looking for what true love really means and finding someone that accepts you, faults and all, this is for you. 5 stars

I really enjoyed this one. It's a story about overcoming your past and taking a risk with your heart. Beard and Soccer have a great chemistry, we see them from flirtation to commitment and it all flows well. At first I found Beard's refusal to even entertain a relationship tedious and cliche, but as you learn his story it stops being tedious and becomes understandable (even if it stays a bit of a cliche). Soccer was the light-heartedness to Beard's dark & twisty. His story is so opposite Beard's, but it's what makes him able to withstand Beard's walls (though he comes close to stalker with his refusal to listen to "not interested" at first). But they talk and get on the same page before it crosses the line. Beard's parents are not fit to be called human. I liked Soccer's roommates. I just really enjoyed the way the romance developed and how Beard came out of his shell and Soccer supported him.

A solid 4.25 read! I liked it so much I read it twice! But for a couple of things, it would be 5 stars!

Scar is the story of two guys who meet in a bar...

Soccer is a college student/ soccer player who is out and has a big, year long crush on Beard, the bartender/owner of his favorite hangout.

Beard is interested in Soccer, (nicknames they have given each other) but he has stayed in the closet due to a bad experience the one time he was brave enough to come out in the past. They finally are thrown together on Soccers twenty first birthday and the relationship begins. The story explores what happens when out and proud invades closeted but interested and opens him up, creating a big sexy man.

Scar was a fun, short, well written read with well developed primary and secondary characters. It had lots of humor, hot sexy times, and a little angst thrown in for good measure.

My reason for not giving it 5 stars are twofold. First, I felt that the title was a bit contrived- the "scar" didn't play a big enough role in the book and was more emotional than physical. Secondly, the book seemed to just STOP at the point after they encounter Beards parents, almost as if the author reached a magical page number and then jumped to the epilogue. If not for those two factors, this would have gotten five fun filled, sexy stars!
For a debut novel, this reads very nicely. It's sweet and trope-free though it does have some pretty stereotypical, small-minded American parents from small-Americaville in it, those who can't accept their kids being anything other than strictly het. But, it was done in a pretty low key way, didn't take over the tale, which focused on a couple of guys finding in each other something that they both wanted.

I liked how bold Soccer was, and how gun shy Beard was, and I liked that these guys talked, so avoiding the whole lot of faux angst that so many MM tales have. Supposedly guys don't like to talk, so this broke the mould a little in that sense.

I'll be watching out for this author now.

This is a pleasurable and easy read. I recommend this to everyone who likes hurt-to-comfort romance with characters that need to come to terms with their past to fully enjoy their lives and possibility of love.

What I liked the most are these little nicknames Beard and Soccer, it was funny and felt "intimate". I really liked that their real names do not appear until the very last page.I liked both MCs, especially Soccer but also other ppl like Andi or Soccer's friends. They felt real and had real problems.
This is not only a nice love story but also a book about fighting with Your demons and fears, coming out and friendship. There is A LOT of hot sex and some conversations but what I missed is some hanging out together that did not lead to making out or talking about past. I wish there was more actual "being in relationship problems". Mostly we can see Soccer stalking Beard, Beard trying to push him away and then them being together. There is no in between.

The writing style is ok, but somehow I had problems with "getting into the story".
For a first book it was kinda choppy, but I really enjoyed the story. I thought it had a lot of potential and the boys were super cute in their crushes on one another. I felt bad for Beard and his past experience and add in his hateful parents and it wasn't hard to feel love for his character. I wanted to hug him so hard.. Not Bad Baylin keep following your dream you have the talent. ❤🌈
