I enjoyed reading these vignettes. I wish the stories were more indepth. The subjects led such interesting lives with intriguing experiences, but very little of that was conveyed.

This book didn't go into depth regarding any of the butlers. A very small blurp about each, some larger and some smaller, not interesting enough. I wouldn't recommend this book, very disappointed.
This book skips so much of the history of the White House. There was a Chief Usher named Crimm who was there after the legendary Ike Hoover. He was omitted entirely. Very poorly written and very poorly researched.
I thought I had read a great deal about the Truman presidency and the restoration of the White House The background on what led up to the critical failure of the White House infrastructure was most interesting and new to me. Truman's involvement in what was essentially the rebuilding of the White House was fascinating. Typical Harry Truman and quite wonderful to read about.
The SHORTEST book I've ever read in 20 minutes. This is an 'okay' iteration of the list of butlers in the White House. Not very interesting. Needed more personalization the the people that served.
This work is a limited introduction to a popular topic due to the current film. I expected far more exploration into the historical and social phenomena that has been attached to this position. There have been a number of butlers in the White House, and surely there is more material available to produce a groundbreaking study.
